Boðaziçi Üniversitesi Eðitim ve Araþtýrma Kulübü'nün (EREC) Avrupa Birliði Eðitim ve Gençlik Programlarý çerçevesinde yürüttüðü çalýþmalarla hazýrladýðý bu etkinlik, T.C Ulusal Ajansý tarafýndan 14.286 Euro tutarýndaki bütçesiyle fonlanmýþtýr ve 12-18 Þubat 2006 tarihlerinde Yunanistan, Portekiz ve Romanya'dan toplam 32 katýlýmcýyla Boðaziçi Üniversitesi'nde gerçekleþtirilecektir.

ABOUT THE PROJECT:

The overall aim is to set a ground for the youngsters to learn about different cultures in the atmosphere where different cultures have interacted harmoniously throughout ages. This project will bring groups of young people from different cultural and historical backgrounds together for about a week in Ýstanbul, Turkey.

Summary of the project in the official application form:
“The project wants to meet youngsters from the European Union countries with youngsters from attending countries to emphasize the European identity and encourage common actions among the youth. Through lifelong educational activities, popular traditional activities proposed during the exchange, the participants will be completely involved in new cultural dimensions developing the ability to contact with other cultures. The vision of the project is to have the participants and local society know each others’ cultures, stimulating the creation of the European awareness. The program will include different activities related to personal development and participants’ preparation towards Europe-wide cooperation.”

OBJECTIVES:

• To promote cultural diversity and co-existence of people from different backgrounds, with this regard, to support and realize intercultural activities.
• To investigate about the core issues such as European Awareness, Cultural Harmonization, Social Conflicts between EU and non-EU members, Tolerance towards Cultural Differences in order to prevent existing and possibly future conflicts.
• To discover cultures of each country that constitutes today’s societies by way of presenting intercultural activities.
• To promote the understanding of tolerance and equality among the society, especially the young people.
• To contribute to the democratic process which guarantees the basis of all societies with the help of providing a free atmosphere where they can live and share their own cultures.

VENUE / PLACES:

The project will take place in Ýstanbul, Turkey between 12th and 18th February, 2006. The workshops will be in Boðaziçi University, an international university in Ýstanbul. There are different young groups and NGOs from whose ideas and activities we will benefit. By the way, participants will experience a piece Turkish culture as well as presenting their own cultures during their visit to Ýstanbul, which is one of the utmost multicultural and multilingual cities.

ACTIVITIES:

During the exchange, we will follow such a program that all the participants will have the chance to present their own cultures, to see and learn about different histories and places at the cradle of civilizations. Our workshops and other activities will be held in English. We will mainly;
• Open Discussion Sessions and organize Workshops on the role of informal education, intercultural learning on creating common identity.
• Organize visits to important places many of which have some relations to different cultures,
• Organize intercultural evenings and national presentations of the partner countries, which will totally be related to our topic,
• Participate in local cultural festivals like marriage or circumcision ceremonies, and work together in rehabilitation of local places,
• Form a common cultural dictionary by the end of the exchange.

PARTICIPANT PROFILES:

7 young people (aged between 16 and 25) and 1 group leader -8 in totals- from each participant country will take part in the organization. Male-female balance should be taken into consideration. The selected participants should take responsibility and be willing to share knowledge, experience and good practices with the other participants.

FINANCIAL DETAILS:

Total amount of funded budget is 14.186 Euro.
The program will cover all the accommodation and food costs, but only %70 percent of the travel costs. Participant fee is 15 € per person.
